The Secours suisse d’hiver, guest of honor 2023
Secours suisse d’hiver Genève provides financial assistance to people temporarily in need.
It was founded in 1936 in conjunction with a week-long national food and fund-raising campaign to support people affected by the Great Depression. Financial aid, warm clothing, food and coal were distributed.
Almost 90 years later, this situation is still very relevant today!
Many people live in precarious conditions. They have enough to eat and a roof over their heads, but making ends meet is a constant concern: how to pay the GIS bill, the youngest daughter’s gym class or the dentist’s fees, which had to be paid after waiting as long as possible?
Over 1,000 people are helped in this way every year in the canton of Geneva.
